SGA is a vital part of our school.  Since our SGA has been in existence, we have had a chance to form an important liaison between administration and students as well as start many new traditions and activities.  SGA officers participate in both the Fall and Spring AISA Conference and are dues paying members.

SGA Elections are always held during the last week of April.  It is a fun and exciting week filled with campaigning and choosing school leaders for the next year.

Officers and representatives take an oath to maintain the highest moral conduct and to lead our student body with dignity and thoughtful attitude.  Officers and Representatives inducted during the 2007-2008 school year are:

President – Whitney

Vice President – Abigail

Secretary/Treasurer – Peyton

Reporter – Ashley M.

Chaplain – Ryan C.

Parliamentarian – Leigh

SGA is extremely busy at all times.  We are either planning for an activity/community service project or we are engaged in one.  This past year wel sponsored and participated in the following activities listed chronologically:

At the beginning of August, we met to review the school calendar and begin planning for the year ahead.  Officers were on hand during the first August PTF meeting to help administration with various jobs and to also welcome new students and help them find their way around ECA.  Once school began, representatives from each Jr. High and High School class elected two SGA representatives and class officers for the year.

SGA has established a day called “Football Friday.”  Football Fridays are only held on a day in which our football team plays on the ECA field.  Representatives and officers are allowed to go into elementary classrooms to sell and apply spirit marks.  This is a great fundraiser AND a way to boost school spirit, especially in our lower school.

Also in August, officers begin a routine of morning announcements over the main intercom.  Our chaplain always has an uplifting scripture for the day and announces any birthdays.

In September, SGA officers and representatives were formally inducted by ECA administration.  On this day, one of our officers presented an overview of the yearly SGA activities to the entire high school student body.

SGA officers looked forward to the state SGA meeting at Huntingdon University.  Here we met with students in our region and decided upon a regional project.  We had an SGA workday afterwards which included ordering our yearly SGA T-shirts and getting started on the yearly scrapbook.  Shortly after, in late September, we organized and sponsored “See You at the Pole” for all ECA students.  This is a time in which all students, parents, and teachers join together and pray for our nation, schools, teacher, parents, and our city.

In October, many of our students participated in the AISA workday for teachers. They really enjoyed helping presenters and meeting other leaders from around the state.  October 5 was our date for homecoming this year.  For the second year in a row, we have had two community service days in which students had to bring an item of personal hygiene.  On the other day, they had to bring a used or new Bible.  These were donated to local shelters in the Montgomery area.

November began with a special excitement as we geared up for our state-wide canned food drive.  During this month, we were also involved in the Latin American Shoebox Project.  All classes were encouraged to bring one filled shoebox per year.  We’ve broken our previous record each year for total number of boxes sent.  Our goal is to do the same thing every year!

Veterans’ Day was and is a very special occasion for ECA’s SGA.  We have many of our graduates who have gone into the military and some are now serving in Iraq.  In order not to forget what our past veterans have done, however, officers and representatives baked cookies, cakes, and brought candy, flowers, and cards to the patients at the Montgomery VA hospital.

In the month of December, we went again to the VA hospital with stockings filled with knitted hats, socks, books, stamps, stationery, etc.  This was simply called our “Stocking Project.”  November and December visits to this hospital are a definite blessing to these veterans, but an even better blessing to us as we give.

During the entire month of January, we focused on our annual “Sock Drive” for Muldovan orphanages.  This is done through the ministry of Philip Cameron.  Mr. Cameron and his team take these socks back to the country of Muldova where children are literally freezing to death from the extreme temperatures.

On February 14th, we were involved in two projects. A favorite activity of all students is “Mr. or Miss ECA of the Day.”  We also served our community by taking valentine cards and candy to the VA Hospital.

March of this year was a time that where we prepared for the 2007-2008 SGA elections while participating in the Shamrock Muscular Dystrophy project.  This was also a time when we were busy putting the final touches on our scrapbook and meeting all deadlines at the AISA office.

In April, one of our favorite alumnus, Edward Fieder, came to speak regarding Camp Seale, a diabetic camp here in Alabama.  At this time, we began to take up offerings in chapel each week until the end of May.

In the month of May, we looked forward to our statewide SGA meeting at Faulkner.  This month also gave us a chance to thank our teachers by doing something extra special for them each day of Teacher Appreciation Week.
