Welcome to the third grade! I feel so blessed to be the third grade teacher at ECA and to have a part in educating the next generation for God's purposes. We strive to provide an excellence in education that stands the test of time and to establish an academic, ethical and spiritual foundation for life. It is a tremendous joy and privilege for me to invest my gifts and talents in the lives of children and to have a part in equipping children for life and to make an eternal difference. It is my desire as a Christian educator to teach children to view the world through the eyes of God rather rather than history books, television or any form of technology. We use Biblical behavioral guidelines in our classroom by showing respect toward God, others and ourselves, by being kind and compassionate to all our classmates, forgiving them, just as Christ forgave all of us, and by cheerfully following the directions of those in authority.

Students participate in a variety of classroom projects, fieldtrips, contests and activities sponsored by our SGA and the community. One of our favorite projects is "All American Day." In history, students learn geography skills by identifying the location of the states. Students choose a state and, through research, prepare a poster and report with information unique to their choice of state. In addition to the reports, they prepare a food associated with their state. Parents are invited to hear the reports and then we share an "All American Lunch." Each year the students view a live performance as they see a production of a play presented by a Children's Theater Company. They are are exposed to classical or historical literature and music in the form of a musical or play. They learn the importance of proper behavior at a live production and gain an appreciation of the arts through drama and music.

Creative writing is an important part of third grade and it is the way we start each day, We provide many opportunities for students to develop written expression. Students learn to put words together in paragraph form using a topic sentence, supporting sentences and a concluding sentence. Students write in a logical progression in order to communicate in a clear and concise manner. The emphasis of all third grade writing is to produce on paper, thoughts, words and ideas that will bring glory to God. We often use art in connection with our writing.

Third grade is indeed an exciting adventure for all of us!
