Welcome to Second Grade!  I am so excited about the upcoming school year and the many educational activities that we have in store for your second grader.

We are about to begin our “Writer’s Workshop” which will take students through each of the steps of the writing process, including "publishing" their own writing via computer. 

We will be going to the pumpkin patch and the Fire Station in October Our focus is on Fire Safety  those dates for you next week.  We will be focusing on Fire Safety in October, as well as fall/apples/pumpkins. 

We have just completed our first major project of the year, and they all did an outstanding job!  It was shadow boxes.  We took the idea from a story that we read in our literature series, "Just a plain, white box."  We extended that idea, and each student created his/her own shadow-or peep-hole-box filled with items that described him/herself and/or things that he/she collects or likes.  We had a huge variety, and students shared them with their grandparents on grandparents' day. 

Students also have 10 different free centers from which to choose each day:  Writing Center, Art Center, Puzzles Center, Games Center , Building Center, Computer, Reading Center, Spelling/Magnetic, Big books Center, and Listening Center. That is the highlight of their day.
