Welcome to the fourth grade at ECA. The fourth grade is a transition year in which students learn responsibility and independence as they begin their journey into the upper elementary grades. This is a year in which students grow in confidence and gain many skills that prepare them for higher level learning and thinking in a challenging environment. They also learn Godly wisdom and character throughout. A heavy emphasis is placed on learning new vocabulary in all subjects. Our core curriculum is ABEKA with supplemental materials to enhance learning, interest, and SAT10 preparation. They will learn how to study as we delve into American History and Alabama History and meet our heroes and explorers from the past. In Bible they learn how to study the Bible, who the Trinity is, and more about each separate part of the Trinity. In Science, they will study God's Creation, specifically insects, plants, matter, space, birds, sound, rocks, sea animals, and the human body. In language, they will learn all eight parts of speech, how to write letters and reports, dictionary and encyclopedia skills, punctuation, capitalization, and word usage. In math, they will learn division, multiplication, measurement, fractions, and geometry. In reading, they will read trade books of high interest, as well as an anthology for grade level literature, and focus on comprehension and other skills needed for the SAT-10 test taken in April. Other subjects in the fourth grade are Spelling, Penmanship, Music and PE.

Mrs. Ryals has been teaching at ECA in the fourth grade for 12 years. She has a masters degree in education from AUM. She has 3 children who have already graduated and attends church at Evangel Temple which has been her church home for the past 24 years. She enjoys teaching fourth graders because they are excited about school and the learning process. She partners with the parents to challenge the students to their highest God-given potential and to find the individual strengths in each student.
